This is just such a lovely quilt - showcasing Andover Fabric's new range of fabric called Downton Abbey. This quilt is going to be shown at Houston Quilt Market at the end of October 2013 - look for it if you are there!
It has been beautifully paper pieced and has areas of plain fabric with showcases Marilyn's wonderful quilting.
Apart from the corners - all the other patterns were able to be placed using the p2p function - including the border repeats (down the sides) and the star centres.
ps - there are a variety of other patterns for these spaces if you want to quilt a similar top differently.
Quilting Patterns Used
- Star Centres: Peggy diamond and Star (3)
- Blue diamonds around the stars: Ripples diamond p2p
- Equilateral triangles (lighter blue with pink): Misty 60 arc p2p
- White border down each side - the x1 version: Mandy sash dmd p2psu (5)
- Outer Border: Misty bdr & cnr (2)
Tips & Info
- The pattern in the equilateral triangles is in reality a fancy arc - which means you can travel a long way with very few tie-offs being required.
- the Ripples diamond pattern was drawn for a 45 degree diamond (8 pointed star). Marilyn decided to stitch out as designed - but by controlling the height (doing an audition, and then once happy set that height and turn the freeze aspect off) she could have fitted it with even narrower margins into the 60 degree diamond (6 pointed star).
